Website testing jobs can be a great way to pick up some extra cash.  Those gigs pay well and usually require 15 to 20 minutes of your time.

Every day, business owners and bloggers are creating new websites and tweaking their old ones to make them more engaging and user-friendly. They need to improve their color scheme, their navigation or even their tagline. How do these business owners and bloggers know what changes to make? They see their analysis, they read articles, they ask their friends and they get feedback from a site eg User testing.

To sign up as a website tester for UserTesting, the company’s “Sign up to be a user testerpage and enter your information. What kind of skills do I need to be a website tester?

Surprisingly, very little skill is required, although any website or marketing knowledge you have is always a plus. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom who knows little about computers or a marketing mastermind, someone out there wants your feedback. After all, these companies aren’t necessarily selling to web gurus. They’re selling to dog-lovers, moms, people who wear socks or runners. If you fit into their target demographic, they want your feedback.

How much can I do?

UserTesting pays $10 per desktop test and $15 per mobile test, and each test takes only 20 minutes to complete. However, before you get too excited, you should realize that there are more testers than jobs, so this is only a part-time gig. It’s a great way to make some quick and easy cash, but it’s not going to pay off your mortgage. Also note that user testing is not tax deductible, so you’ll need to set those funds aside.

Who hires website testers?

In this article, we are specifically talking about UserTesting.com, although you’ll notice that many other user testing websites stick closely to the UserTesting model. Here are a few other sites that may be hiring at this time:

  1. StartupLift – StartUpLift specifically works with startups to provide feedback to accomplish certain tasks based on their website. You are paid $5 for every response accepted and they pay every Monday via PayPal.
  2. What do users do? – Testers with WhatUsersDo also review new websites (some with household names), and are paid $5 per test. They send you exam invitation through email and you can take only 3 to 5 exams per month. They also pay through PayPal, but on the 25th of every month. A screen recorder download is required.
  3. Enroll – Enrollment allows you to take a variety of tests from any device – computer, tablet or phone. You can review a new logo, give feedback on website clarity, or complete some other task. They pay via PayPal but their payment details are not listed on their sign up page.
  4. Analysis – In analytics, you can expect to complete certain tasks on a website while recording your screen and audio. They email you when a test that matches your profile is available. Testers are paid $10 per test, which usually takes about 15 minutes, and is paid through PayPal.
  5. Useranalytics – To test with Userlytics, you must have a computer with a microphone, running Windows 7 (or better) or MacOS 10.7.3 (or newer). You’ll also need a webcam. Their testers provide feedback on websites, apps, prototypes and more.
  6. Try MyUI – As a tester with TryMyUI, you will use and provide feedback on websites and apps – Your screen will be recorded during testing and you will speak your thoughts out loud. They also make you take a written wrap-up survey. They pay $10 per accredited test and they say each test takes an average of 20 minutes to complete. Payments are made by PayPal every Friday.
  7. User sentiment – UserFeel is another handy company that will record your screen and your spoken thoughts. You can use a smartphone or a Windows 7 or better computer. Mac also works. They pay $10 per test with tests taking about 10 to 20 minutes. Payments are made by PayPal or Payoneer and they pay about 1 week after your test is accepted.
  8. Usability Hub – UsabilityHub offers very short tests for which you are paid around $0.10. They call your earnings “credits”, where 1 credit equals $0.10. Once you accumulate 100 credits, you can cash out your $10. They pay through PayPal. It seems that most users of UsabilityHub have very little available for testing.
  9. Userinput.io – This company finds their website and idea feedback testers through Amazon’s mTurk; However, they are going to do another experimental service for iPhone and Android app reviews that you can fill out a form if you are interested.
  10. Exam time – Testing Time gives testers feedback on digital products (websites and apps) and you must use Skype to test with them. They pay €50 for each study, which is currently about $59. They match you with tests using your profile and you get an invitation via email once they match you. You set up an appointment with their client to do a guided usability test, and they pay you for the test within 10 days.
  11. Intellizum – IntelliZoom is a user testing panel put together by UserZoom. You can check for them from your mobile device or your computer. You just need to be able to download their testing software and have access to Wi-Fi. Most tests take 10 to 20 minutes. Tests that record your screen and spoken thoughts pay around $10 while standard surveys pay $5. You will be paid within 21 working days of your test being approved.
  12. User zoom – UserZoom is very straightforward and like most usability testing sites – sign up, fill out a profile, take tests and get emails when tests are available.
